The Adamawa State Police Command has taken into custody a 94-year-old man named Muhammed Abubakar, who stands accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Tappare ward within the Ganye Local Government Area of the state.

A statement released on Wednesday by SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, unveiled that the alleged perpetrator, a practitioner of herbal medicine, employed cunning tactics involving offering young girls candies and sugary treats.

The most recent incident is reported to have taken place on August 18, 2023, when the victim was in close proximity to the suspect’s residence. It is alleged that the elderly man called the teenager into his home and exploited the situation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that during the course of the incident, the accused utilized a concoction that resembled perfume, which subsequently left the victim unwell.

Following the onset of her illness, the young girl confided in her mother about the harrowing experience. Consequently, the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters situated in Ganye.

CP Afolabi Babatola, the Commissioner of Police, expressed unequivocal condemnation of the incident. He has directed the officer overseeing the command’s family support unit to spearhead the investigation and ensure a comprehensive legal pursuit against the alleged perpetrator.

The police chief underscored the importance of vigilance among the public, especially parents, in safeguarding their children from individuals with sinister motives. He urged cooperation with the command’s endeavors aimed at combatting all manifestations of gender-based violence.
